Memory Lane charity calendar launch at The Whim Wham Café
Where better to launch a fabulous vintage pin-up calendar than in the award-winning vintage surroundings of The Whim Wham café? Our reporter Helen went along…
Clearly Laura Norrey, the mastermind behind the charity fundraising calendar Memory Lane, agreed.
Last night’s (25th Nov) event saw a bevvy of vintage beauties come together to support the launch of the calendar – which so far has raised more than £700. Laura undertook this pin-up project to help raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, a cause very close to her heart.
She said: “Over the past eight years dementia has slowly robbed me of my beautiful Grandmother, Irene. The calendar project was started in order to raise funds in her honour but sadly is now dedicated to her memory as she passed away on September 18th 2012.”
Even though the project has a serious side to it, the evening itself was filled with glamour, fun and laughter.
Entertainment included stunning performances from burlesque performers S-J, Snow, Lacey Pops and Juniper Crush.
Their saucy routines were complemented by the Wartime tribute act and 1940s and 1950s singer Heather Marie, who sang a toe-tapping medley of classics including Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Fever and Get Happy.
After the event Laura said: “Thank you to everyone who attended the launch party at The Whim Wham Cafe this evening – the venue was packed, the atmosphere was electric, over 100 calendars were sold, and we raised almost £700 for The Alzheimer’s Society in the space of two hours!”
It’s safe to say the launch, and the calendar itself, was a huge success – and it’s great to know that such a well-styled and put together calendar not only looks good, but is doing good as well.
